Awesome Autumn Retreats

I don’t know about you, but I live for autumn. Sure, summer’s warm breezes are nice, and nothing beats the first signs — and sounds — of spring. Even winter can be pleasant, especially after the season’s first snowfall. But it’s autumn that I really love.

September reminds me of back-to-school, family gatherings, hikes on wooded trails and worn-out sweatshirts. And it also reminds me of wonderful long-weekend getaways. And as always, across the Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley regions, events to compliment the perfect autumn retreat abound.

Labor Day-weekend travelers, you’re in luck. From the incredibly popular On the Waterfront Music Fest in Rockford, Illinois, and Schaghticoke Fair in Schaghticoke, New York, to the exhilarating Vintage Raceboat Regatta in Wheeling, West Virginia, there’s something for you.

Wine lovers will appreciate the Shores of Erie International Wine Festival in Amherstburg, Ontario, and the West Virginia Wine & Jazz Festival in Morgantown, West Virginia, while food fans of all tastes can curb their appetites at Barbecue on the River & Market Days in Paducah, Kentucky, and the Ohio Pawpaw Festival in Albany, Ohio.

And for those traveling with kids, must-visit events include the Valparaiso Popcorn Festival in Valparaiso, Indiana, and the Adirondack Balloon Festival in Queensbury, New York.

Regardless of your long-weekend retreat, I’m positive that you’ll find something of interest in the calendar below. And for more getaway ideas — from outdoor adventures to romantic trips — visit us at long-weekends.com.
