Belhurst Castle and Winery

Although the property where Belhurst Castle and Winery sits has ties to 1738, its current form began when Carrie Collins purchased the property in 1885 with ambitious plans. Collins tore down the dilapidated family home that occupied the land and hired 50 men to construct a castle.  

Completed in 1889, it acted as Collins’ summer home until her death in 1926. The castle changed hands several times over the years, going to Collins’ grandson Hal Harron Jr. and then restaurateur and bootlegger Red Dwyer, until current owners Duane and Deb Reeder bought it in 1992. 

Today, their Belhurst Castle and Winery includes the pub-style Stonecutter’s Tavern and the Vinifera Inn (a 20-room addition to the castle), a wine shop, a salon and spa, and Edgar’s Restaurant, an upscale spot named after Duane’s father. 

Those who want to live like royalty can stay at the Chambers in the Castle suites or choose from nine other distinctive guest rooms that include the Bamboo Room (outfitted with a bed original to the 1889 castle) and the Bronze Room, with a cast-bronze fireplace. 4069 W.
