Maize Valley

Kay and Donna Vaughan always had a knack for farming, from milling grain to milking cows. Then, in the 1990s, they tried something new: selling their “super-sweet” corn along the side of the road. Soon, they were selling other produce to the public as well.  

Around that time, the Vaughans’ daughter, Michelle Bakan, and her husband, Bill, began operating a farm stand there and experimenting with a seasonal corn maze. Now, the combination agricultural winery, brewery, restaurant and farm in Hartville known as Maize Valley transforms into a fall paradise for over a month each autumn. 

Families can take a wagon ride, tackle the straw-bale mountain or navigate the corn maze, while the littlest visitors love petting livestock at the Goat-A-Palooza animal area.

Adults can drive push carts and pedal trikes, and all ages love the duck races in which visitors are divided into teams to cheer on the Indian Runner breed of ducks that compete on a track. Maize Valley is also known for its fall cannons, one of which launches pumpkins a half mile through the air.
